poetry

miles apart

I’ll look after you

for now

because always means what it always has

it’s not if we get sick of each other

it’s why and when and how

how quick we boil each other’s blood

the wounds have started to appear

I tell you silence isn’t everything and yet

you still call me dear

and honey and sugar and baby

that’s all I am to you

sticky syrups and dependent creatures

 meant to be subdued

we’ll depart from each other soon

this i can guarantee

but for now I want you

sitting right next to me

and holding my hand

holding me tight

in your warm embrace I’m home

nightmares kept me afraid

now I even fall asleep in daylight

at night we reach for each other

and yet I feel miles apart

my arms reach for you

all in return I’ll leave you with scars

because I scratch and bite

because it’s only right

carnal love, honey

this is how I’ve known it all my life
