poetry

rinse and repeat

I know what we’re doing tonight

like we’ve done a hundred times

listening to the same songs

we sang a thousand rhymes

songs are just like poems

lines we remembered together

like the one you wrote for me

“you are my forever”

lines turn into lies

maybe you wrote her name and crossed out mine

maybe you cook with her and dance

then talk in bed til 3am

laugh until you cry

there is no doubt in my mind

I don’t question it anymore

I know what you’re getting up to tonight

like we did a hundred million times

does she taste like dandelions and trees?

does she smell like me?

—I mean, I mean lilies

I hate to think I showed you my world

and you stole it

it’s not yours to give to her

she doesn’t even know whose it was

don’t hold it, you don’t own it

get it back from her

give it back to me

new girl, same casualty

falling asleep in your passenger seat

(does she rest her feet up on the dash?

how fucking disrespectful is that)

you became so cruel so vile

do you show that side to her too?

or is it saved for a surprise in a little while?

remember when we talked matching tattoos?

and I know you’ve rewritten over me

writing over old memories

pretending like you and I weren’t “we”

we were never meant to be

so go ahead and recycle

the same songs and rhymes

trade my name for another’s

you’re already wasting time

black heart eclipses the golden ones

do my flaws outweigh hers?

daggers turning inwards

my heart aches
